How did your business get its start?

I took up golfing a bit later in life, at the age of 45, and loved the game, but, I didn’t feel comfortable in the boxy, masculine-looking golf apparel that was available locally. When my husband & I traveled, I found stylish outfits & accessories at out-of-town golf resorts, so I knew they existed, but just not in and around Cleveland. After doing quite a bit of research on trends in women’s golf, I decided to personally invest in creating a boutique for women golfers who, like me, were looking for clothing & accessories that were not only flattering & comfortable but also had a little pizazz.

How long have you been in business?

Since December of 2010.

What do you like most about your job?

Nothing is more gratifying than seeing a customer’s face light up when she tries on a new outfit, looks at herself in the mirror & genuinely loves what she sees in her own reflection. At that moment, I know that the time & energy spent searching for unique pieces is so worth it. It’s a great feeling.

What do you like best about working in Cleveland?

The transformation. Being born & raised here, I enjoy watching it evolve & continue to stretch in directions that I’m proud to see. After living in New York City, I came back with a renewed appreciation of our lakefront, the ease of traveling in and around our town, and the genuine pride and commitment that Clevelanders share with one another. And especially, that we’re the Rock ‘n Roll Capital of the world!

What makes Girls Got Swing unique?

Currently, we’re the only off-course women’s golf shop in the state of Ohio. Women travel to Rocky River from Akron, Canton, Youngstown, Sandusky, Norwalk, and beyond, to visit our boutique as a destination day-trip. My job is to work every day to make sure that their trip was worth it & exceeds their expectations. Spending quality time with each customer to help them find the perfect fit is essential. The experience of personal attention is something that can’t be found on-line & customers appreciate that aspect of shopping in a boutique setting.

What does keep it local mean to you and your business?

One of my tag lines is: “Shop Outside the Box” because the Big Box Stores have slowly chipped away at the individual attention that used to be given to customers. Shopping in a locally-owned setting offers a certain comfort level to customers who appreciate not only the individual attention, but also, the conversation, and the genuine camaraderie that comes with hearing their stories & knowing their names.

How did you come up with your business name?

Girls Got Swing came to me when I heard the old Duke Ellington Song “It Don’t Mean A Thing, If You Ain’t Got That Swing”. It fit the personalities of the women golfers that I had met over the years — Fun, Sassy, and Full of Life!

Are you offering any special services right now?

We offer a ‘Girls Night Out’ for a group of 6 or more customers who want to reserve any evening for a shopping party. We provide complimentary Hors ‘d oeuvres & Beverages, plus a 15% discount on all regular-priced merchandise.Friends shopping together takes on a personality all its own! It’s always a great time.

Anything Else?

We’ve discovered many of our repeat customers aren’t golfers, but like shopping at Girls Got Swing for their travel needs. We carry warm-weather sleeveless tops, skorts, and shorts year-round, perfect for vacations taken during the winter months. Our apparel packs well, with minimal or no wrinkles, is extremely comfortable and has a sun-protection factor of at least 30+. Other non-golfers are women who lead an active lifestyle and like our fashion apparel for working out, biking, and tennis. We also carry gift items for the golfers in your life.


We offer merchandise for women of all sizes and skill levels. Apparel sizes are available in sizes 0 to 22 and 1X. New golfers, who may prefer basic items, will find just what they need to get out on the course.
