Spotlight: Kabb an Elder Law & Care Firm
Join us as we talk with Melicia Sinclair, Legal Assistant at Kabb an Elder Law & Care Firm, about this truly unique local business here in Cleveland, Ohio.
How did your business get its start?
My father started the law firm back in 1984. He wanted to have his own firm that he could pass down to the next generation. When I passed the bar in 1998, he handed over control when I had my law license for 9 months. He transferred ownership in 2001 and I was already changing the focus of the firm to its Elder law and advocacy.
How long have you been in business?
I have been in practice 20 years this November. The firm has been in business for 34 years.
What does Keep It Local Cleveland mean to your business?
I love the network that Keep It Local provides to Cleveland. It is such a diverse group and you can always find someone that you need.
What makes Kabb Law so unique?
We are one of the few law firms in the state that provide certified elder law attorney and a Master’s level social worker on staff full time to help families navigate the elder law maze.
What do you like best about working in Cleveland?
I love helping fellow families right here in my hometown.
What do you like most about your job?
I get to help families that are struggling with caring for their elderly or disabled family member and provide real-time, concierge solutions. I love hearing about the histories of our clients and honoring that uniqueness in a nursing home system that can be demeaning and treat you like a number.
Why are you in this type of business?
I always wanted to be a lawyer since I can remember. I found elder law early in my career as an attorney and loved helping seniors and their families. My dad got into elder law because he wanted to help my grandmother and every client reminds me of them.
Does your business have a stated mission statement, the reason that the business exists?
The Mission of Kabb Law Firm is to help elders and their families age with dignity by providing a comprehensive, holistic care plan that addresses care, legal and financial solutions including access to public benefits including Medicaid and VA planning.
