Spotlight: Partners to Empowerment Wellness Center
Join us as we talk with Carol Kwait, owner of Partners to Empowerment Wellness Center, about how she and her practitioners created a close, welcoming community dedicated to holistic health.
What is your first memory of your business?
My first memory of my company is signing my first lease for the center space. As a new business, we were hesitant to get into a long term deal so we went year to year for the first several years.
How does your first memory compare to what your business has become today?
Today Partners to Empowerment is in a new space, in the same building, with a long term lease! We more than doubled our space two years ago and are able to offer so much more to our clients and to the public.
Since Partners to Empowerment opened in 2013, I have added acupuncture, muscle release therapy, MELT Method classes, holistic skin care, meditation and expanded our yoga program. That is along with our original offerings of yoga, tai chi, massage, reiki and workshops.
I am excited about the center and I am especially proud of the dedication and excellent work that my practitioners and instructors offer. Everyone at Partners to Empowerment is authentic and at the top of their game. It is actually quite humbling.
What has surprised you the most about being a business owner?
Being a business owner is never dull! What has surprised me most, in a good way, is that every day I look forward to coming to work. I am proud of what I have accomplished and I am excited about the future.
Who are some of the coolest people you've met since opening?
The coolest people I have met since opening are the center clients and everyone who offers services at my center. Without Partners to Empowerment I would not have had the opportunity to meet and get to know all these amazing and interesting people. It is a real privilege for me to be able to call our clients friends and staff family.
What might we be surprised to learn about your business?
Not sure this is surprising…I still don’t have a business plan!
How do you think your company will change in the next 5 years?
I hope that Partners to Empowerment grows in terms of people who utilize our center and its services but stays small in terms of it being a warm, serene and welcoming space. In the next five years I hope to be able to expand on the work that I do in the community. One of my passions is working in under-served communities and I want to be in a position to be able to bring holistic services to those who cannot access them on their own.
What has been your main goal running this company?
My main goal at Partners to Empowerment is to be able to “partner” with individuals and/or organizations in the community, to help them meet their own wellness goals. I have always wanted to have a place where people can come where they feel a sense of relief and respite from whatever else might be going on in their lives.
Why did you choose Cleveland?
Cleveland is home. I am originally from Cleveland and this is where my roots are.
What has been the most satisfying thing about opening this business?
Two things come to mind regarding most satisfying. First, and foremost, is when clients tell me they love the center and are grateful to have this space.
Second, I continue to be humbled, and thrilled, by the intelligent, highly skilled and professional individuals who want to offer their services at Partners to Empowerment. It reminds me that I really do have something special!
