How did you come up with the Wheedle App?
Wheedle was created to help restaurant, bars and clubs to get more people in the door. No tools existed to help these businesses reach customers who were looking to go out and to promote their features and events across digital channels.
What made you start in Cleveland?
We are from Cleveland and believe it to be a great city to launch a start-up. Specifically, Cleveland has a great culinary scene and diverse nightlife options, all competing for attention in our smaller market. Additionally, Clevelanders are great about supporting Cleveland companies and were willing to give us a try.
What has been the hardest part about starting your business?
Optimizing our solution to align with the needs and interests of the hospitality businesses we are serving. We’ve spend two years working with over 60 businesses to understand their needs, test and refine our offering in order to create a solution that is easy to use and impactful for our customers.
What has been the easiest part?
Identifying businesses and owners that were willing to work with us to help test the solution and provide feedback. Cleveland has been very supportive of our efforts.
We've seen Wheedle in the news for a lot of exciting things! What all have you won this year? How did it help your business?
We received the North Coast Opportunity Technology Fund award, an economic development program from Cuyahoga County. These funds have helped us build out our platform and get initial market traction. We are also a finalist for the OH Tec Best of Tech Awards, Most Promising Startup Category, for the second year in a row.

It seems like there is an app for almost everything these days! What sets Wheedle apart from the rest?
In order to provide value for the business, other apps in this space promise a large set of consumer users who are the target for the services/ads promoted. We help our customers reach consumers across all digital channels including social media, web and email newsletters.
What does "Keep It Local" mean to you?
Helping to bring much-needed attention to growing local companies.
Last time we did a spotlight on you Wheedle was brand new. What has changed in the last year?
When we began, we were focused on responding to consumers’ requests for a specific event, and consumers had to wait for individual responses from matching businesses. We’ve changed to make the promotions immediately available to consumers, based on the date/time they are looking to go out. We’ve then extended these promotions from within the Wheedle app to reach all of the businesses’ digital channels, including social media, web, and email newsletters. Additionally, we’ve launched a full-service ticketing solution to allow our businesses to create, promote and sell tickets to events.
