Spotlight: Harlequin Design Studio
Join us as we talk with Tracy Rendina, owner and designer at Harlequin Design Studio, about how loving what you do helps you overcome doubts about starting a business.
What is your first memory of your company?
Honestly? Trying to figure out if I did the right thing by opening my own business.
How does your first memory compare to what the company has become today?
I wouldn’t change my decision for the world. I enjoy what I do.
What has surprised you the most about being a business owner?
The reality of being an employee vs the responsibilities that come along with being the owner.
Who are some of the coolest people you've met since opening?
I’ve built some great relationships with different vendors. Learning who you can trust and who is there when you need them.
What might we be surprised to learn about your business?
We are very family oriented. We have a lot of fun with our customers and make the project as enjoyable as possible even though we are ripping their house apart for a period of time.
How do you think your company will change in the next 5 years?
We have a good direction of our goals and how we want to grow. We are planning on opening a second location farther west and I am trying to become a bigger part of the community.
What has been your main goal running this company?
It is extremely important to me that our clients trust us, that they can depend on us to give them direction and that we are a dependable outfit.
Why did you choose Cleveland?
This is my home.
What has been the most satisfying thing about opening this business?
Seeing how the business has grown when I had so much doubt in my mind about whether I could do this or not.
Is there anything else you would like to tell us?
The saying “Love what you do and you will never work a day in your life” couldn’t be more true. As stressful as it can be, I still love what I do.
