Spotlight: Inspired Chiropractic & Wellness
Learn more about Inspired Chiropractic & Wellness as we sit down with owner and chiropractor Sara Perry!
What is your first memory of your company?
I remember even as a little girl I would work on my mom’s tight muscles and she would feel so much relief from her chronic, unrelenting pain. It made me feel good to take a little piece of her pain away, and I thought, “Wow, how awesome would it be to help people like this all the time?” Then I had a chiropractor change my life at the age of 10. I was in terrible pain with a pinched nerve and missed 2 weeks of school. I couldn’t stand up straight and experienced serious bathroom problems. At such a young age I thought I would never see my friends at recess again (the end of the world as a 10-year-old girl.) No doctors helped me until a chiropractor was able to take every bit of that pain away in just ONE visit. All he did was take away the restriction that was interfering with my nerve function, and my miraculous body was able to heal itself. That’s when I knew I needed to practice chiropractic to help as many people as possible.
How does your first memory compare to what the company has become today?
I had no idea at that time what all it takes to become a chiropractor. It’s a very similar education as a medical doctor, only the philosophy and approach are completely different. I spent 8 years in school after first earning a degree in dance performance. It was a long road, but now that I have the freedom to practice how I want and be a resource and a genuine person with my patients, I wouldn’t trade any of it! I have worked for other doctors who said things like- “You take too long with patients.” or “You get people better too quickly.” Hearing those things made me realize there is something fundamentally wrong with healthcare these days and that I have the ability to make a huge impact in the lives of others by treating people the RIGHT way and going above and beyond for my patients. The first two months of owning my own business have been fulfilling and exciting!
What has surprised you the most about being a business owner?
I had no idea how grateful I was to have a staff to help me all these years! Being a business owner is not an easy road (although it’s worth it!). There are so many moving pieces, and I’m just beginning! I am so grateful to have a health coach, massage therapist and my boyfriend Kevin to help me with operating the business. The team effort we have developed is the only thing that keeps us functioning, and I am so lucky to have the help.
Who are some of the coolest people you've met since opening?
I love meeting other business owners. In Lakewood, everyone is so supportive of each other. It’s an amazing community to be part of. I love brainstorming ways to partner with other businesses to raise each other up. Hopping on a Facebook live video to widen each others’ social media audience, co-hosting an event, giving a health and wellness lecture or even just getting to know each other has been so fun.
What might we be surprised to learn about your business?
We do more than just chiropractic and pain! Of course, we are great at helping traditional problems like back pain, headaches, tendonitis or sciatica. But we also are able to do extensive nutritional testing to test for organ function, toxicities and nutritional deficiencies that are often the hidden cause of disease in the body. I have seen people lose weight who have struggled to lose weight for years due to hormone imbalance. I’ve seen fibromyalgia pain and psoriasis clear up with liver supplementation. I’ve seen arthritis pain disappear with a diet change and some natural anti-inflammatories. I’ve seen migraines and concussion syndrome resolve with some targeted adjustments and bodywork. I’ve seen severe constipation and GERD clear up with one fiber supplement that seals leaky gut. There are so many ways the body can heal itself if you take away what is keeping you from functioning optimally!
How do you think your company will change in the next 5 years?
I think (and hope) we will experience a lot of growth. We are at the beginning of an exciting journey, and we can guarantee we have the biggest hearts and passion in the industry. When you are truly in your line of work to serve others and change lives, you can’t go wrong!
What has been your main goal running/at this company?
My biggest goal is to widen the public audience for chiropractic. It’s no longer the mysterious profession some see it as. It is so much more than just “cracking a back” or “going organic.” Chiropractic isn’t talked about enough, and achieving wellness holistically is the way of the future! No longer will we be covering up symptoms with drugs or just treating disease. We will be striving to be our best selves and PREVENTING the disease in the first place. And by widening my audience, I get to meet so many more amazing people like my fellow KILP members!
Why did you choose Cleveland?
Cleveland (and more specifically Lakewood) has a special place in my heart. I’m originally from Springfield, Ohio near Dayton and spent my first few years as a chiropractor in St. Louis. I always knew I wanted to come back to Ohio, and both of my sisters live in the Northeast. From the moment I first visited Lakewood, I loved the local business-centered, culture-filled town. I then met my boyfriend here, and it became a no-brainer to start my business here. Oh- and my love for Cleveland sports teams doesn’t hurt!
What has been the most satisfying thing about opening this business?
I think the first time I realized that people wanted what I had to offer- and my first dollar earned- was a really cool experience. It was like an epiphany- “Aha, this might just work!” Having awesome people by my side has also made this so fulfilling and made some of the nerve-wracking parts about starting a business easier to go through.
Is there anything else you would like to tell us?
I’d love to hear more about what makes YOU an awesome business owner and what your purpose is in life. I like to think of myself as being more interested than interesting. I don’t know that what I say is all that interesting, but I do always hope it will help someone who is struggling. I’m more interested in what makes each unique individual wake up in the morning and head out into the world to fulfill their deeper purpose.
